徐利治先生1920年9月出生于江苏省张家港市,1945年毕业于西南联合大学,1949–1950年获英国文化委员会奖学金,在英国Aberdeen大学和Cambridge大学进修访问各一年.1951年回国后历任清华大学副教授、吉林大学教授、大连理工大学教授兼应用数学研究所所长、华中理工大学教授兼数学系主任、南京航空航天大学名誉教授兼理学院名誉院长.徐利治先生曾受聘为首届国务院学位委员会学科评议组成员、中国数学会组合数学与图论专业委员会主任、中国科学院数学研究所顾问、
Mr. Xu was born in Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province in September 1920 and graduated from Southwestern Polytechnic University in 1945. He received a scholarship from the British Council in 1949-1950 and a further study visit at Aberdeen University and Cambridge University in the United Kingdom in 1945. After returning to China in 1951, Associate Professor of Tsinghua University, Professor of Jilin University, Professor of Dalian University of Technology and Director of Institute of Applied Mathematics, Huazhong University of Science and Professor of Mathematics Department, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and honorary dean of the College of Science honorary president.
