2000年是湖南省新闻出版事业发展进程中具有标志性的一年。在省委省政府和新闻出版署的正确领导下,全省新闻出版战线广大干部职工团结奋斗、扎实工作、开拓进取,服务大局、改革取得初步成效,出版产业经济有了新的发展。2000年行业总资产达到49.37亿元,产品销售收入达到42.25亿元,利润总额达到3.9亿元,国内生产总值(GDP)达11.63亿元,分别比1995年增长212.86％、81.02％、84.67％、168.59％,实现了“九五”基本目标。现将2000年产业发展概况分述如下:
