This article reports a microprocessor controlled programmable electrocardiographic device that outputs over 20 waveforms of signals from 1 to 199 beats / min for testing and evaluating electrocardiographic instruments. Premature beats or leaks can be introduced manually or automatically at any heart rate during the programming interval, and the 60Hz noise controlled at a certain level can be superimposed on any output waveform. The device is very useful for the development of arrhythmia monitors, because the ECG signals it leads to, its heart rate and arrhythmia appearance can be adjusted and controlled. In addition the device can also provide the required heart rate intracavitary ECG waveform, which is also useful for the design and testing of pacemakers.
