Freshwater Fisheries Professional Committee of Jiangsu Provincial Institute of Fisheries held a large-scale surface fishery symposium on October 5-8, 1988 in Suzhou. The meeting was attended by more than 60 representatives and nearly 40 papers were exchanged. During the meeting, the delegates summed up and exchanged experiences on the exploitation and utilization of the large water surface fisheries in Jiangsu Province in recent years, especially the large-scale aquaculture. The main problems were discussed and the future development directions and ways were studied. The deputies agreed that the major experience in the development and utilization of large-scale surface fisheries in Jiangsu Province is to formulate and implement technical guidelines and measures for various types of water surface according to local conditions.
