随着现代军事技术的不断发展,高技术战场上的任何目标几乎不再有任何防御或保护措施可以依赖。因而,着眼于未来的信息化战争,怎样避免被发现,怎样才能在拥有各种先进探测、监视技术之敌的严密监视下提高军队及军事目标的隐蔽性,即实现军事装备、军事部暑及军事行动的隐形化已成为现代国防力量建设以及遂行作战任务的基本前提。对现代高技术海战场而言,由于战场环境的特殊性,主战装备是否具有良好的隐蔽性与其作战能力及生存能力息息相关。一直以来,各国海军无不高度重视并大力推进其作战装备隐身技术的开发和应用。当然,即使目前在军事科技领域居世界领先地位的发达国家海军,其作战装备尤其是水面舰艇的隐身技术水平也仍未实现在高技术海战场完全隐形、从而使敌无法发现这一目标。但经过长期不懈的努力,各发达国家海军已经能够作到令数千吨级战舰的显示特征仅相当于数十吨渔船的较高水平,大大降低了敌方先进探测设备的发现距离及目标识别能力,战时也能够有效降低敌方先进制导武器的捕捉概率,极大地提高了作战装备在现代高技术海战场环境下的隐蔽部署、隐蔽机动及其整体攻防作战能力。早在20世纪90年代初期的海湾战争结束不久,中国军队就已充分认识到并指出了未来军队必将走向隐形化这一发展趋势,自那时起就已开始在这一领域展开多方面的研究和技术开发。当今的中国军队对以信息技术催生的新军事革命及其在各领域引发的变革趋势并不缺乏敏感,并且很早已明确得出信息化、隐形化的军队乃是未来信息化战争的必然要求这一正确论断。自20世纪90年代以来,中国海军主战装备的发展历程极具代表意义地展示了当今中国军队在隐形化方面取得的持续进步。
