四害即老鼠、苍蝇、蚊子和臭虫。老鼠:为什么老鼠过街人人喊打呢?这是因为老鼠不但偷吃粮食,咬坏物品、家具,破坏建筑物和水利设施等,更严重的是它传播疾病,如鼠疫、钩端螺旋体病、流行性出血热、沙门氏菌病等二十多种疾病。在人类历史上,曾有过鼠疫成灾的记载: 在六世纪当鼠疫由埃及侵入欧洲时,东罗马帝国有一半人口死于鼠疫;十四世纪鼠疫在欧洲大流行,死了二千五百万人,占当时欧洲人口总数的四分之一;十五世纪又再次流行,英国伦敦就死了六万八千人之多;
