As a land-use activity, traditional agroforestry systems have experienced hundreds of thousands of years of history and still play an important role in the world, especially in the tropics and subtropics. In a time of crisis such as global change and food security, traditional agroforestry systems are gaining the attention of more and more governmental and non-governmental organizations, because traditional agroforestry systems have important economic, ecological and socio-cultural benefits. This is in line with the requirements of the world’s important agricultural heritage sites. So far, four typical traditional agroforestry systems in five countries have been listed as important global agricultural heritage sites. These traditional Agroforestry systems have rich agricultural biodiversity, multiple ecosystem services, and important socio-cultural values, both at the regional and global levels. At present, the traditional agroforestry system faces some threats and challenges such as population migration, market shocks and climate change. However, as long as the government and non-governmental organizations, communities and farmers closely cooperate in various ways and in future global land-use activities , The traditional agroforestry system will surely be effectively protected and popularized.
