七星岭坐落在海南岛东北部文昌市铺前镇境内,距文昌新市府清澜百五十多里,岭高五百丈,北濒海,由大小十余峰组成,其中有七峰独高,连缀如北斗星列,因此得名。“七星排斗”自明代起就被定为文昌八景之一。明代天启时,定安名贤王宏诲在七星岭第一峰建塔,名曰斗柄塔,也由七星得名。除王宏诲外,不少海南名士都与七星岭结下不解之缘。最负盛名的首推大学士丘浚。他曾写《七星山》一诗,对七星岭推崇备至。诗云:
