冶金工业部于7月21～26日在江苏省无锡市召开了全国炼铁提高质量节约焦煤经验交流会议。到会者有全国各省市代表160余人。会议的任务是:总结和交流全国在炼铁、炼焦、洗煤方面的先进经验,特别是小高炉和土洋结合的冼煤、炼焦方面的先进经验,同时规定下半年具体奋斗目标与措施,发动全国钢铁工业职工为提高生铁质量、节约焦煤,超额完成国家计划而努力。无锡为提高小高炉生铁质量创造了许多有利条件。突出的表现在洗媒、炼焦方面取得了成绩。无锡供应小高炉炼铁的焦炭,全部是经过洗煤炼出的。因之,焦炭灰份低、强度高,因此炼出的生铁质量好。无锡所用的简易洗煤机是学习了外地冼煤机的经验,结合当地的条件而设计的。这里洗煤机的特点是:产量多,每台洗煤机每小时可处理原煤最高达35吨;建造快,如材料具备只要1～2月即可建
