19世纪末起,由于经济的快速发展,一个现代消费社会在美国逐步兴起与发展。消费成为美国生活方式和大众文化的重要组成部分。高涨的消费浪潮将美国男性卷入了不同层次的消费活动中。由于消费符号所代表的意义,美国男性开始通过消费行为来构建其现代男性气质。随着二十世纪的推进,这一构建男性气质的新方式逐渐获得了社会大众的普遍认同。
Since the late 19th century, due to the rapid economic development, a modern consumer society has gradually risen and developed in the United States. Consumption has become an important part of the American way of life and popular culture. The rising wave of consumption has drawn American men into different levels of consumer activity. Due to the meaning of consumption symbols, American men began to construct their modern masculinity through consumer behavior. With the advent of the twentieth century, this new approach to building masculinity has gradually gained the general approval of the general public.
