Once when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between the ticket office and us. This family made a big impression on me.
There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children talked excitedly about the clowns (小丑). It was clearly a very important day out for them. The father and mother seemed as happy as they could be.
The ticket lady asked how many tickets the father wanted. He proudly answered, “Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adults’ tickets, so I can take my family to the circus.”
The ticket lady told him the price.
The man’s wife lowered her head. There was no longer a smile on the man’s face. He quietly asked, “How much did you say?” The ticket lady again told him the price.
The man didn’t have enough money. But how could he tell his kids the bad news?
Seeing what was happening, my dad took a $100 note from his pocket and dropped it on the ground. (We were not rich ourselves at all!) He then tapped (轻敲) the man on the shoulder and said, “Excuse me, sir, you dropped this.”
The man understood my father was helping him. He picked up the money, looked straight into my dad’s eyes, and in tears said, “Thank you. This really means a lot to me and my family.”
Although we did not go to the circus that night, we didn’t go without happiness.

The first friend took his wallet out of his pocket, opened it and took out a $100 bill. Then he threw it into the grave.
The second friend did not want the other two to think he was stingy, so he also took out his wallet. “You’re right,” he said, “He always helped his friends. He should have everything he needs in his next life.” And with these words, he also threw a hundred dollar bill into the grave.
The third man looked at the other two, and thought carefully for several minutes. He did not want them to think he was mean (吝啬的), but he really did hate spending money. At last, he bent down, took the two hundred dollar bills out of the grave and put them in his pocket. Then he took out his checkbook and wrote a check (支票) for three hundred dollars. 第二节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
  根据短文内容,回答下列问题。
Sometimes people come into your life and you know that they are there to teach you a lesson, or to help you understand who you are or who you want to become.
You never know these people who may be a classmate, a neighbor or a friend—but when you lock your eyes on them, you know at that very moment they will influence your life in some ways.
Sometimes things that happen to you may seem unpleasant, painful, or frustrating (令人沮丧的) at first. But in another way, you find that without getting over those difficulties you would have never realized your ability, strength or will power (意志力).
The people you meet and the success you get help to create who you are and who you will become. Even the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are sometimes the most important ones.
If someone loves you, give love back to them in the way you can, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.
If someone hurts you, or breaks your heart, forgive (原谅) them, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being careful of people around.
Self-confidence is necessary to a person. If you’re not confident, it will be hard for others to believe in you.
Learn a lesson in life each day you live!
