Objective To study the curative effect of 125I seed implantation on VX2 liver xenograft in rabbits and observe its effect on the surrounding normal liver tissue. Methods Twelve VX2 liver tumor models were randomly divided into control group and treatment group. 125I seeds were implanted in the treatment group and hollow particles were implanted in the control group. Before implantation of the particles, 7,14,28,60 d CT enhanced scan and liver function tests, and histological observation on the 60th day. Results At 7, 14, 28 and 60 days after implantation, the tumor volume in the treatment group was smaller than that in the control group. After 14 days of treatment, the ALT in the treatment group was lower than that in the control group, and decreased on the 7th and 14th days after the treatment. Radiological liver injury was not detected in the liver tissue around the tumor in the CT scan within 60 days in the treatment group. Conclusion The implantation of 125I is a safe and effective method for the treatment of transplanted liver tumors in rabbits, which can effectively inhibit tumor growth, improve liver function and lessen the radioactive damage to the surrounding normal liver tissue.
