On the morning of May 9, 2003, Xikou Town, located in Cili County, Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, was exceptionally quiet under the drizzle. The elderly Zhu Ju Chu and his wife Zhang Quan-mei, who live in the town’s Leisure Street, have lived in this hundred-year-old street for more than 30 years. The house is a four-storey wooden stilt structure that has broken down after six or seven decades of trials and tribulations. The two sons who bought a new house in town repeatedly demanded that the two of them move to live with them, but they could not bear to let the old house ever move. It was just 8:10 after eating breakfast that the day had cleared. Zhu Juchu pulled out 10 yuan from the cupboard to do “this” to play cards - although the days were too tight, but his two old hobbies: smoking and playing cards have not been interrupted.
