赵孟 作为赵氏宗室而出仕元朝 ,长期以来受到一些人的指责与讥讽 ,认为“有伤气节” ,并影响到对他的艺术作品的评价。但是 ,按照历史唯物主义的观点 ,应将赵孟这一历史人物置于宋末元初这一特定的历史环境中去探析。从他与南宋宗室关系的淡漠 ,他对南宋末年黑暗政治的不满与失望 ,再结合元初统治者忽必烈所采取的对汉族儒士、赵氏宗室的怀柔政策所产生的作用 ,综合考察后不难看出赵孟仕元是一件自然而又合乎情理中事。因此 ,对赵孟仕元不必多加指责 ,更不必为此贬低他的艺术成就及他在中国艺术史上的地位
