The main sensor of modern multi-function fighter is the radar. It is considered a very expensive device because of the complex technology and processes it uses, however, it has not been so carefully designed. This article describes pulse Doppler coherent radar, with high, medium and low pulse repetition frequency waveform, it can provide a variety of ways to meet the requirements for use on several models, such as for F-5, Falconry (Hawk) 200 and F-7MM (the latest PRC fighter program) to use. Key features of the radar include: flat panel array antennas; electrically driven scanners; X-band TWT transmitters with high frequency switching power supplies; direct digital frequency synthesizers; programmable signal and data processors; dual-channel receivers . The above features are described in more detail below and are followed by an analysis of the design to illustrate the design methodology used to ensure optimal cost / performance.
