In recent years, many proposals for setting up broadband packet switches have been put forward, but most of them can not meet the requirements both in terms of performance and cost. This article proposes a new broadband packet switch called the Balcher-Multiple Banyan (BMB) switch. Because the BMB switch is output buffered, it behaves similar to a Knockout switch, but the BMB switch is built on a multistage network and has a lower complexity.
