Objective To understand the sleep status of college students in Taiwan and Guangzhou and to compare the quality of sleep between college students in two places in order to understand the sleep problems of college students and improve their sleep quality. Methods A simple sampling method was used to conduct a questionnaire survey on a university student in Guangzhou and a sophomore in Taiwan. The survey included gender, age, grade, major and sleep status. Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used to evaluate the quality of self-sleep. Results A total of 170 students in the second year of higher education in both places were investigated. There were 171 boys and 169 girls, 84 girls (49.4%) in Taiwan and 85 (50.0%) girls in Guangzhou. Taiwan and Guangzhou sophomores were (19.80 ± 0.631) and (19.79 ± 0.624) years old respectively. The PSQI score of Taiwanese college students was (3.670 ± 1.487) points lower than that of Guangzhou college students (4.150 ± 2.023), the difference was statistically significant (P <0.05), which was lower than that of PSQI norm (5.26 ± 2.38) . The PSQI score of boys in Guangzhou University was higher than that of boys in Taiwan University (P <0.05). There was no significant difference between female students in Guangzhou University (P> 0.05). Conclusions The quality of sleep of college students in Guangzhou and Taiwan is good, but the quality of sleep in Guangzhou college students is worse than that of Taiwanese students. It suggests that college students in Guangzhou should arrange the time reasonably and pay attention to sleep problems.
