Buddhist statues is a major feature of the Capital Museum collection of artifacts, not only large reserves, but also full range, rich in content. Since the late 1980s, all the leaders have attached great importance to these artifacts and organized manpower to conduct clean-up many times. Through years of clean-up, we have now basically found out the numbers, categories, distribution of times and the style and features of the various periods in the collections, laying a solid foundation for our research work. At the beginning of 1998, on the basis of the cleanup of Buddhist statues, our museum examined and approved the subject of “Research on Buddhist Statues of Collections” with the Municipal Bureau of Cultural Affairs of the Municipal Bureau of Cultural Relics and successfully approved a special research group immediately. Over the past three years, thanks to the joint efforts of the comrades in the research group, this research has made some progress and has written and published more than ten research articles successively.
