Since the first cephalosporin antibiotics were first introduced to the clinic in the early 1960s, such antibiotics have played an important role in the modern treatment of bacterial infections. A large number of cephalosporins with various microbiological, pharmacological and toxicological properties have been published. This article aims to summarize the important characteristics of cephalosporin antibiotics and clinical applications. Cephalosporin antibiotics were originally derived from Cephalosporium acremonuim. Three compounds were isolated from this fungus, cephalosporin C, cephalosporin N and cephalosporin P. Cephalosporin P has a moderate activity against Streptococcus, Corynebacterium, and Clostridium, but bacteria are not active against this compound
