Lodore is a work by Mary Shelley, a 19th-century English romantic writer. In the novel, the gender identity of male role Henry Fitz Henley is based on paternal pedigree while the female role of Cornelia Seidel is based on the female pedigree inherited from mother and daughter. Different pedigree heritage forms the game of subject construction in patriarchal culture field. After the game, Cornelia and daughter Issel’s mother-daughter relationship was fragmented, the two constructs a different female gender identity. The novel ends with the conclusion that Cornellia recognized the identity of the female object under patriarchal culture. Through “Loedel” dynamic gender construction narrative, Mary Shelley reveals the construction of gender identity of British patriarchal culture in the 19th century.
