Previous studies have shown that the wheat C.I. 7090 strain (Trilicum aestivum L.) contains an unidentified gene that is resistant to many common and shortened stinkbill species. C.I.7090 was crossed with different hosts of susceptible cultivars Triumph and Elgin and tangled smut. The F_3 and F_4 generations of these hybrids were analyzed to determine the number and identity of the resistant genes. The results point out that it is a new gene called Bt_9. Bt_9 plus Bt_7 was antagonistic to 36 of the 41 races that have been reported as common tilapia. Bt_9 was independently inherited for Bt_1, Bt_2, Bt_4, Bt_6 and Bt_7 genes. In wheat C.I. 7090 (Triticum aesti-vum L.), 9 major genes were previously identified for resistance to common fish head smut. Eight of these genes are also resistant to short-tipped black ears
