On February 9th, Hitachi, Japan, and TI Corporation jointly announced that due to price pressure, the cooperation plans of the two companies in the United States will be shelved. In the statement, both companies mentioned that the reason for this plan’s failure was that the price of memory chips was already lower than the cost of production. In Japan, where memory chips are mainly produced, both Hitachi and Fujitsu have declared that their income is not satisfactory. During the entire year of 1997, DRAM prices remained low due to oversupply. The two twin companies, Twinstar, began operations in 1996, producing 3 million 16MDRAM chips per month, and began the prelude to a decline in DRAM prices. This $500 million plan has not been sustained due to insufficient cash
