On May 18, Compaq launched the AlphaServer ES40 server in China with a 0.18-micron 64-bit Alpha EV68833MHz microprocessor. The AlphaServer ES40 features four 833MHz Alpha EV68 microprocessors based on the Typhoon-Typhoon chipset and 8MB of dual-rate technology with 32GB of memory for hot-swappable hard drives and 64-bit PCI UItra2 SCSI RAID Technology, UItra3-StorageWorks bays and disks. This is Compaq’s first demonstration of the EV68 chip. The AlphaServer ES40 system supports Compaq Tru64 UNIX, OpenVMS and Linux operating systems.
