Dick: Happy birthday to you! I brought you a little gift, nothing special. Halle: Thanks! It looks very nice.
Dick: They wrapped2 it in the store. Well, look who’s here!
Halle: Hi, Jennifer.
Jennifer: Happy birthday, Halle.
Halle: It’s so great of you to come.
Jennifer: I wouldn’t have missed it. Here’s a card. Your present is on order3.
Halle: You didn’t have to do that.
Jennifer: My pleasure. Hi, Dick.
Dick: Sorry about the golf lesson. I guess I got kind of wrapped up in my own game.
Jennifer: Never mind. We’re here to party. I hope I’m in time4 for cake. Halle: Sure you are. It’s a picture cake5, a picture of me on my second birthday. Wasn’t I cute?
Dick: The problem with picture cakes is figuring out who’s going to eat what part of the picture.
Jennifer: I’m sure we won’t worry about it if people are hungry enough. If you’re ready I’ll light the candles6.
Halle: Okay. Here we go. Let’s see if I can blow them out7 in one breath.
Dick: Don’t forget to make a wish, but don’t tell us what it is.
Halle: Don’t worry. I know just what to wish. I won’t tell you what it is unless it comes true.
Dick: I’m wishing for lots of ice cream.S
