以“年轻、前卫、艺术”为旗帜的“实验剧展” ,自一九八○年开始 ,至一九八四年为止 ,一共举办了五届 ,不仅带动了尔后非学生社团的“社会性剧团”的产生 ,更使得小型剧场的演出蔚为风气 ,直接、间接造成了一九八○年代末期以降 ,以年轻人为主的前卫性戏剧演出活动。本文的讨论 ,企图在社会发展的背景中找寻“实验剧展”的发生原因 ;其次 ,在中西剧场的历史脉络中找寻“实验剧展”的艺术胚胎 ;然后针对“实验剧展”参展剧团、剧本、舞台演出三方面 ,以剧展创立初衷为标准 ,在剧团组成、主题内容诉求、意识型态、以及剧场艺术的创新和专业性等方面作出一番摘要分析 ,并且进一步探讨“实验剧展”停办的真正原因 ,同时尝试对其影响作一番历史定位的评估
