錢鍾書不寫自傳,且對時興的自傳寫作屢次表達譏諷與批評。這與錢氏關於史傳的看法一致。他依“六經皆史”説提出經、子、集莫非史的觀點,初看似擴大了史料之範圍,實則洞見到史傳作爲文本的非確定性。但這並不意味着錢氏否定“信史”的可能與努力,恰恰相反,他以“談藝者”的生命歷程,提供了解讀史料與認知歷史的深度思考。
Qian not write autobiography, and the fashionable writing autobiographical repeatedly expressed ridiculed and criticized. This is consistent with Qian’s view on historical biography. According to “Liu Jing Jie Shi”, he put forward the viewpoints that Confucianism, Taoism and Non-history are non-historical. At first glance, it seems to expand the scope of historical data, but it actually see the historical uncertainty as the text. However, this does not mean that Qian denies the possibility and effort of “letter history”. On the contrary, he provides an in-depth reflection of the historical materials and cognitive history with the life course of “talking about the artist.”
