大陆的现代白话书面语与港、台的有别,它们是宋元以来的白话书面语为基础的,清末民初以来的白话书面语发展而来现代汉语书面语的不同社团方言。不同时期书面语的变化反映权威方言或通语的变化,权威方言或通语的交替会引起稍晚的书面语流派的较大变化。如果把文言定义为袭用古代语文的书面语,周代的一些铭文可以认为是当时的文言,大约春秋时代开始,就有两种风格的文言书面语,通俗的文言和仿古的文言。
The modern vernacular written Chinese is different from that of Hong Kong and Taiwan. They are the dialects of different communities based on the vernacular written since the Song and Yuan Dynasties, the vernacular written since the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, and the modern Chinese written language. The changes of written language in different periods reflect the changes of authoritative dialects or tongues, and the alternation of authoritative dialects or tongues can cause great changes in later written language schools. If classical Chinese is defined as the written language used in ancient Chinese, some inscriptions in the Zhou Dynasty can be regarded as the classical Chinese then. About the Spring and Autumn Period, there are two styles of classical written language, popular classical language and antique classical Chinese.
