Objective To investigate the relationship between Parkinson’s disease (PD) and pain and its clinical significance. Methods The clinical data of 162 PD patients attending the department of neurology of West China Hospital of Sichuan University from May 2007 to February 2008 were collected and compared with 135 healthy adults of the same age and sex. The patients were evaluated by simple pain questionnaire and analyzed by gender, age, onset of disease, age of onset, duration of disease and Hoehn-Yahr (H-Y) classification. Results The incidence of pain in PD patients (53.1%) was significantly higher than that in controls (23.7%) (P <0.01). The incidence of pain in PD patients and controls was higher than that of men in the same group (P <0.01). With the increase of HY classification, the degree of pain in PD patients aggravated. Conclusions There is a clear pain situation in PD patients, which aggravates with the progress of the disease.
