This article reports the effect of glycyrrhetinic acid on the intracellular cyclic nucleosides that regulate gastric acid secretion. In vitro experiments: Animals fasted overnight were decapitated and fresh gastric fundus and gastric pyloric mucosa were quickly removed. Under freezing conditions, 20% tissue homogenates were made from 0.25 molar sucrose solution. The effects of glycyrrhetinic acid on the activity of phosphodiesterase (PDE) were determined by Thompson and Appleman methods using cAMP and cGMP as substrates, respectively.
