1981年省科委下达海岸滩涂资源综合开发利用任务,选定响水县头砧堤防管理所至套子口长1000米堤段,进行海堤防护林造林技术研究。该堤南北走向,东、西坡宽各6米,面积18亩。因常年受两面海水侵袭,土壤含盐量比较高,西坡土壤含盐量达0.3—0.5%,东坡土壤含盐量高达1—2%。植被品种稀少,除散生少量芦苇、獐毛草、盐蒿等外,大都为光板地。1980年前曾栽过几次树,由于土壤盐份重,都没有成活。几年来,我们采取挖坑、淋盐换烂草土、植草种绿肥压盐、“盐下树上”的方法,取得了初步效果,为沿海重盐地防护林营造,提供了科学依据。
