先生讳明照,字弢甫,四川大足县拾万镇玉峰里人也。一九○九年生。家世儒医,六岁从父就学,塾课诸书例皆成诵。十岁学为诗文,众体皆习而尤好骈语。历简师、初中于一九三○年入重大文预科。因聆吴芳吉讲课引《文心雕龙》而心好之,遂朝夕讽读,立志钻研。一九三五年重大并入川大,次年毕业即以《文心雕龙校注拾遗》为学位论文,导师庞石帚先生给以一百分,评语特优。旋入燕京大学研究院国文学部,从郭绍虞先生学。燕园名宿众多,图籍宏富;先生优游寝馈,弋钓研核,博览沉思,深造自得。越二年,以《〈文心雕龙〉研究》为硕士论文于研究院毕业。士林称誉,耆老刮目。先后执教北平燕京大学、中国大学、成都燕京大学。一九四六年,返四川大学供职。凡翱翔高校讲席,垂七十载。门生逾
