书籍封底的左下方,印有一排黑竖条,上面还标有13位阿拉伯数字,这就是图书条形码。图书条形码看似无规律,其实每个数字都有其特定意义。自左往右,前3位称前缀码,由国际物品编码协会分配,国际标准书号系统的前缀码是978,因此我们在图书上看到的前缀码都是相同的。第4位是国家或地区的代码,我国的代码是7。从第5位到第12位数字是出版者代码和书序号码。如果出版者代码用二位数,书序号就必然是六位数。如果出版者代码用三位数,书序号就必然是五位数。往下则依法类推。总之出版者代码越短,书序号就越长,
