The authors recently proposed a sub-grade of human helical scaffolds containing several keratin-intermediate filaments. The presence of cytokeratin provides mechanical stability of the entire spinner scaffold. Studies of exodermis cells isolated from some rodents have demonstrated that the outer hair cells contain collapsible microfilaments that can be shrunk under various conditions such as electrical stimulation, mechanical stimulation, or changes in the surrounding chemical composition. However, under natural conditions, the top of the outer hair cells are firmly attached to the reticular layer containing the keratin, which relies on tight junctions and a dense network of dendrites. The question is whether the base of the outer hair cells is fixed to the outer finger cell, or to what extent.
