It has been shown that seismic amplitudes and their significant variations with offset can provide good results in good prospect-trap exploration and significantly reduce exploration risks compared to the mere use of tectonic information. When hydrocarbons displace underground ubiquitous salt water, changes in rock properties can cause changes in seismic amplitude. These changes in rock properties in turn control the intensity of the AVO response and reflection. 1
