In some countries, measles is the leading cause of death among children under 9 months of age. It is recommended for these countries to vaccinate 6-month-old infants with high-titer Edmonston-Zagreb measles vaccine (EZ-HT). However, little is known about the long-term impact of a higher-dose measles vaccine on droughts after birth. 1,015 newborns were randomly grouped in rural Senegal; 336 children were immunized with EZ-HT at 5 months of age; 321 five-month-old children vaccinated with Schwarz strain (SW-HT) and 358 five-month-old children were vaccinated with placebo. The conventional low titer Schwardz vaccine was then vaccinated at 10 months of age and 388 unvaccinated controls served as controls. All subjects were followed up for 24 to 39 months. The three groups of children have similar social, family and health status, and no other additional conditions exist.
