在浙江省舟山群岛定海岸边,矗立着一座高大的纪念碑,上面镌刻着一位英雄的战绩:“……参加战斗八十多次,率领过十八次突击队。当战士时毙伤敌一百一十一人,俘敌二百零三人。缴获重机枪两挺、轻机枪四挺、山炮两门、步枪一百二十支、手枪四支……”他,就是1949年8月18日在解放舟山首战大榭岛的战斗中牺牲的“华东战斗英雄”、“洛阳营”营长林茂成。 林茂成,1924年生于山东省沂水县桃花坪。小时候家里很苦,8岁时便离开父母给地主放羊,吃尽了苦头。
