由湖南省水产研究所和慈利县畜牧水产局共同承担的国家“七五”重点科技攻关项目:“地热水养殖甲鱼技术研究”经过五年的试验研究,于1990年6月26日在长沙通过了技术鉴定。到会专家教授25人,对该项研究给予了很高评价。该项研究,引用地下热水,架设钢架塑料棚保温,控制水温25—30℃,采用先进的人工配合饲料,进行科学地饲料管理,使脱壳4(?)左右的稚甲鱼经一年的饲养达商品规格,个体均重达352克,最大个体1000克,比自然条件下生长的甲鱼快3倍以上,最高亩产甲鱼1991.6公斤,饲料系数1.7—2.33,投产比1:1.4。同时该项研究还就在地热水养殖条件下甲鱼的生长规律和生态要求等
