川楝是我省速生树种之一,落叶乔木,生长迅速,高可达15米左右。川楝对土壤要求不严,在酸性,碱性及盐渍化土壤上均能生长,耐涝。树皮黑褐色,幼时淡褐色,有白色皮孔。材色红棕色,材质较硬,性脆,纹理细微,美观,耐腐性强,油漆性能亦佳,板面上纹理部份有扭曲颇美观,适宜做家俱和各类箱盒。在工业上可用做胶合板、玩具、网球及羽毛球拍,和人造丝从纸浆原料。川楝分布于西南各省,四川主要分布于万县、绵阳、乐山、南充、涪陵,达县,宜宾等地区。
