中国古代的劳动人民遭受着压迫、剥削,内心深处渴望着一种自由、平等,有饭吃,有衣穿的幸福生活,这种思想体现在各类民歌、各种典籍、小说中。从中我们可以看出,中国古代的乌托邦思想是异常丰富的,这就为激进主义的产生提供了肥沃的思想土壤。鸦片战争后,中国就开始面临着两大历史任务:民族独立,国家富强。前赴后继的仁人志士在追求这两大目标的过程中,表现出了过激的倾向,要求在短时间内实现绝对的平均、公平,打破了先前的均衡,给社会带来了灾难,一些事实深刻地表明,激进主义的产生深受中国传统社会中乌托邦思想的影响。
