以斜取势指印文故意倾斜以求险势。以斜取势的作品今不如古。在古玺、秦印中,这类作品非常多,而在流派印中,到吴昌硕之后才稍用此法。这或与明清文人篆刻案头雅玩的性质有关,即不必要把印面搞得摇摇欲坠。古玺、秦印多为带边栏界格的白文印,朱文古玺多厚边,它们的形式格外稳定,所以印文取斜势正好可以利用其稳固作用(图1,图2)。这类作品大多出于偶然,变化多端,但章法原理极为简单,依靠印边、界格等来稳定印面。
