In Chengdu and Chongqing, urban and rural co-ordination tests were, to some extent, the forerunners of co-ordinating reform in urban and rural areas in China. In June 2007, Chongqing and Chengdu were designated as the pilot areas for comprehensive urban-rural reform in China. Since then, a change in the overall planning of urban-rural differences, balancing the interests of urban and rural areas and rebuilding social structures began a journey of ice-breaking.
