Buyang Huanwu Decoction can increase the contractility of isolated papillary muscles of a cat and has a concentration-dependent relationship, while it has no significant effect on its excitability, self-discipline, and refractory period. It is suggested that Buyang Huanwu Decoction has a positive inotropic effect, which explains the mechanism of the improvement of circulation in one aspect.
