美国地球物理学家肖尔茨(C.H.ScboIz)曾于1976年6月作为美国“海城地震考察组”成员访问过中国,在英国《自然》杂志1977年5月12日第267卷5607期120～124页上发表了题为《海城地震予报的一种物理解释》的文章,认为海城地震可能是由一个形变锋(deformation front)引起的。我们曾根据作者寄来的该文予印稿译载在《国外地震》1977年第3期上,并加了 编者按语。美国《科学新闻》(Science Ncws)1977年第3卷22期342页刊登了扼要介绍肖尔茨这一观点的题为《中国(海城)地震是一个运动着的连波引起的吗?》的报道,全文译载如下供参考:
US geophysicist CHScboIz visited China in June 1976 as a member of the “Haicheng Earthquake Investigation Team” in the United States. In the May 26, 1977, volume 5607, May 12, 1977, Nature 120 ~ 124 pages published a paper entitled “A Physical Interpretation of Haicheng Earthquake,” the article that the Haicheng earthquake may be caused by a deformation front (deformation front). According to the article sent by the author, we have given a printed copy on the third issue of the “Foreign Earthquake” in 1977, adding an editor’s note.
