During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the KMT Central Committee for Culture and Sports Commission organ of the publication “Cultural Pioneers”, there is a common column with today’s “Today in History” in some media, namely, “Founding of the People’s Republic of China”. This column mainly introduces some commemorative days related to the founding of the People’s Republic of China, such as the birth and death of Sun Yat-sen, the life of other revolutionary martyrs, the revolutionary movement under their leadership, and important historical facts during the War of Resistance Against Japan. Through examining these commemorative purposes, we can see how the cultural departments of the Kuomintang government tried to arouse people’s national consciousness during the War of Resistance Against Japan by tracing back to “the history of revolution.”
