成寅同志: 祝贺你的专著《石涛画学本义》一书的出版!我虽只能用扩大镜断断续续读到第69页,虽离读完全书的时间尚早,觉得已经可以看出你的努力与成就。不必等到将来见面时才谈点感谢你的话,不过,现在写信难免自感字迹潦草。 你对石涛那“一画”、“蒙养”、“资任”等不易理解的词语作了认真的探索和破译,可以看出你那严肃认真的良好作风。对于石涛画学观与《易》中的蒙卦的联系的理解,可谓深入了石涛治学的秘奥。学术研究也像艺术创作,不能缺少但未必确切的揣测。揣测和想象或体验,分明表现在你对“蒙养”与蒙卦的联系的理解。你没有掩饰自己有所发现的喜悦,我认为你那不厌其烦的考证得来的判断值得肯定。也许别人可能有不同看法,但我赞成你所代表的正当学风。
