提高高分子化合物耐热性的途径之一,是在高分子主链中引入环状结构以增加高分子链的刚性.比如聚酯的研究早在1930年左右即由Carothers开始,但是他所合成的聚酯都是脂族的,它们是液体或低熔点的固体,不能作为材料使用.到1950年绦纶和1957年聚磷酸酯相继在工业上有了生产,聚酯才成为重要的合成纤维和塑料的原料.这两种高分子在主链中都含有苯环结构;它们都具有比较高的熔点.
