《编辑学报》l992年第4卷第2期登载的张云扬《医学院校单位名称英译探讨》一文,较系统地叙述了医学院校教学、医院、行政管理及后勤系统单位名称的英译法。笔者基本赞同张云扬的译法,仅对文中教学系统“教研室”的英译名(Department of……)提出个人不同的见解,就教于张先生。1 department不是“教研室”1.1 张文将“某教研室”直译为“Teaching andResearch Department of……”(简译为“De-partment of……”);许多医学学报、期刊也是这样用的。就此笔者查阅了部分词典和有关文章,认为此种译法不妥。请看词典针对学校、学术机构而言时给department一词所下的定
Zhang Yunyang, “Journal of English Translation of Medical Institutions and Units” published in Journal of Editorials, Volume 4, Number 2, 1992, systematically describes the English translation of teaching, hospital, administrative management and logistics system unit names in medical schools . The author basically agrees with Zhang Yunyang’s translation method, and only offers his own personal opinions on the English version of the “Teaching and Research Section” of the teaching system. 1 department is not a “teaching and research section” 1.1 Zhang Wen translates “a teaching and research section” as “Teaching and Research Department of ......” (translated as “De-partment of ......”); many medical journals and periodicals are also used in this way. In this regard, I access to some dictionaries and related articles that such translation is not appropriate.
