阿瑟·米勒的代表作《推销员之死》因其深刻地剖析了人们因盲目信仰“美国梦”所付出的代价,被公认为美国现代戏剧的经典之作。对话是一部戏剧赖以存在,为人赞赏的基石。戏剧对话正是作家将其思想信息注入读者的一个重要媒介。巧妙地运用戏剧对话必定能更好地表现一部戏剧的主题思想。本将利用Grice的“合作原则”去分析威利一家追梦时对话的“不合作”因素,从而揭开“美国梦”的实质。
Arthur Miller’s masterpiece Death of a Salesman is widely regarded as a classic of American modern drama because of its profound analysis of the price paid by people for blind faith in “American Dream.” Dialogue is the cornerstone of a theater’s existence and appreciation. Drama dialogue is just one of the important media for writers to inject their thoughts into their readers. Clever use of drama dialogue will certainly be able to better present the thematic ideas of a drama. This will use Grice’s “principle of cooperation” to analyze the “noncooperation” of Willie’s dialogue at the time of dream catcher so as to reveal the essence of “American dream.”
