Since the 19th century of the last century, the situation of short life expectancy has slowly changed. Life expectancy has risen by about three months each year since 1840. Sweden, which has the highest life expectancy in the world, is heavily studied. The life expectancy of women in 1840 was 45 years old and now 83 years old. Americans tend to have similar increases in life expectancy, with newborns expected to have a life expectancy of 47 years at the turn of the twentieth century and 79 years now. If life expectancy can continue to increase by three months each year, the life expectancy of Americans will reach 88 by the middle of this century; they will reach 100 by the end of this century.
