红花在我国栽培历史较久,近几年更是得到重视的油源和提取色素的作物,油质优良,油分中亚油酸含量高于其它油料作物,达75—81%。其花可以入中药。1978年前,我国种植的红花种子含油量都较低,一般为25—32%.1978年以来,为提高红花种子含油率,对引进的22个红花品种的含油率高低与花色,种壳颜色、种壳厚薄等性状的关系进行了相关性研究.发现含油量与它们之间有一定的相关,现将初步结果简报如下.

The content of linoleic acid in oil is 75-81% higher than other oil crops. Its flowers can enter Chinese medicine.
